Suspected Bomb Outside Of South Coast Government Complex Turns Out To Be Potted Plant

There was a scare at a South Coast government complex, when a suspicious looking package was spotted on its front lawn. It prompted evacuations, but it turned out to be something quite harmless. It was a plant.

Someone noticed the box in front of the Port Hueneme Civic Center just after 10 Wednesday morning. The complex is home to a number of government offices, including City Hall and the Port Hueneme Police Department.

City Hall was evacuated, and a nearby elementary school was placed on lockdown. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was called to the scene. They determined the cardboard box contained a potted plant. Police are now trying to figure out how the plant ended up there, causing the scare.
