Companies Sentenced For 2014 Hazardous Materials Explosion, Fire In Ventura County

Two companies involved in an explosion, and fire involving hazardous material in Ventura County which injured dozens of people have been restricted from doing business in the county which involves dangerous materials.

The Santa Clara Waste Water Company and Green Compass Environmental Solutions were also put on three years probation, and ordered to pay $3.6 million dollars in restitution to the victims of the November, 2014 incident.

Investigators determined that some chemicals were improperly mixed at the wastewater treatment facility outside of Santa Paula. More than 30 workers and first responders were injured by the blast and toxic chemical fire.

Prosecutors say the companies and some employees failed to document as required by law some toxic chemicals on the site. They say there was also a conspiracy to hide information from inspectors. Eight people were charged in connection with the blast and fire, but all but one of those cases have been settled.
