Bird Which Flew The Coop From Home On South Coast, And Became A Jail Bird Reunited With Young Owner

A bird which escaped from it home, and flew to the Santa Barbara County Jail where it lived temporarily has been reunited with its owner

There’s a happy ending to the story of a jail bird on the South Coast. It wasn't a human jailbird.  It was a bird which literally showed up at a jail.  Earlier this week, a Cockatiel flew into the secured area of the Santa Barbara County main jail in Santa Barbara. Deputies weren’t sure where it came from, but took in the confused and hungry bird.

The media shared pictures of the bird with the public. It turns out the bird was owned by a nine year old boy who lives near the jail.

The bird, named “Sammy”, had flown out an open window in the family’s home last week. The boy was heartbroken.

The family saw the media reports about the bird which had voluntarily committed itself to the jail, and Thursday afternoon, there was a happy reunion of the boy and the bird.
