Autopsies Lead Authorities To Conclude Deaths Of Two Men On Boat Off South Coast Were Accidental

Autopsy show that two men found dead on a boat off the South Coast died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning. Gary Bishop and Christopher Avila were sailing Bishop’s boat from Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard to Port San Luis last month when family members reported them missing.

On June 30th, a Coast Guard helicopter found the boat in the ocean about 20 miles off of Santa Barbara. Helicopter crew members lowered onto the boat found the bodies of the two men. At the time, there were no signs of foul play.

The autopsy results means the deaths are being classified as accidental.
