Ventura County Supervisors Set To Look At Oil, Gas Project Controversy

Ventura County Supervisors are set to look at a controversy over whether a permit for a small oil and gas facility should be extended, and expanded. Renaissance Petroleum has an oil and gas well, along with support facilities off of Etting Road, in a rural area east of Oxnard. The company wants to renew the conditional use permit for its existing facilities, and add four additional oil and gas wells to the property.

Opponents contend the plans create a number of environmental issues, and violates the state Environmental Quality Act.

The County Planning Commission rejected the arguments, and approved the use permit request.

The coalition of environmental groups then appealed the decision to Ventura County Supervisors, setting the stage for Tuesday’s public hearing.
