Ventura County Homeowner Faces Charges After Three Hurt By Explosion In Illegal Garage Conversion

An explosion and fire at a Ventura County home led to charges against the homeowner, because prosecutors say he had illegally converted the garage into living space. Three people were seriously injured in the November, 2018 accident on Lemar Avenue in Oxnard.

Prosecutors say Vidal Zuniga Lopez had rented out his garage as living space, despite being warned twice before it could not be used in that way. He entered no contest pleas to two charges related to building code violations.

Lopez was put on 30 days work release, and three years probation.
