Central Coast Police Chief's Stolen Service Weapon Recovered

Authorities say a Central Coast police chief’s gun which was stolen from a restaurant Wednesday has been recovered. San Luis Obispo Police Chief Deanna Cantrell lost the gun when she went into the restroom at a restaurant, and took it off.

Thursday night, authorities received a call from the brother in law of a man believed to have taken the gun.

San Luis Obispo Police detectives went to a Los Osos home where they recovered the weapon.

Police say Skeeter Carlos Mangan admitted finding and taking the weapon from the restaurant. There’s no word on what charges he might face.

The police chief recorded and released a statement on video Wednesday about what happened, apologizing for the incident and saying she is prepared for the consequences of her action.
