Couple Charged With Real Estate Scam In Ventura County; Loss Estimated At More Than $5 Million

A husband and wife are facing multiple criminal charges after Ventura County prosecutors say they stole millions of dollar from elderly homeowners in a real estate scam.

Prosecutors say James Rojas and Yvonne Martinez created false liens against five multi-million dollar properties in the county, clouding the legal title to the homes.

The five victims ranged in age from 66 to 90 years old, with each of them losing a million dollars or more. The two Riverside County residents charged in the case remain in the Ventura County jail, in lieu of a million dollars bail each.
