Controlled Burn Planned For South Coast; Could Be Visible In Much Of Ventura County

A Ventura County Air Unit makes a demonstration water drop in Simi Valley

It’s not often that you can predict when a brush fire will happen, but one is set to take place on the South Coast Wednesday. The Ventura County Fire Department is planning a controlled burn in the Newbury Park area.

Plans call for burning about seven to eight acres of brush in Hidden Valley, to reduce the threat of future blazes which could threaten homes. If the weather conditions continue to hold, the burn will start at around 10 a.m., and last until mid-afternoon.

A smoke plume may be visible throughout the county. Firefighters will also use the burn as a training exercise, so people may see water dropping helicopters and hand crews in action.
