Effort To Stop Suspected DUI Driver Leads To Fatal Crash

An effort by police to stop a suspected DUI driver on the Central Coast led to a pursuit, and fatal crash.

A Pismo Beach police officer noticed a speeding motorcycle on southbound Highway 101 near Oak Park Road in Arroyo Grande early Tuesday morning.  Investigators say the motorcycle got off the freeway and ran a red light.

The officer turned on the patrol unit's lights to try to make a traffic stop, and the motorcycle sped away on El Camino Real.  But a few moments later, the motorcyclist failed to make a curve, and crashed.  The cyclist was thrown from the bike, and pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's name hasn't been released yet.
