Ventura County Up To Ten Flu Deaths, But Fatalities Still Well Below Last Season's Numbers

The number of flu related deaths in Ventura County has climbed to ten, but is still well below last year’s levels. 46 people died in Ventura County at the same point in the flu season last year.

There’s been a twist in the strain of flu impacting people. The season started out with H1Nl being the dominant strain, but now H3N2 has become more predominant. H3N2 is the same strain of the flu we had last season.

Most of those who died are in high risk categories, like cardiovascular disease. More than 300 deaths have been reported statewide.

Ventura County Public Health officials emphasize that people who haven’t received vaccinations yet should do it, because the season isn’t over yet.
