Some Impressive 7-Day Rainfall Totals On Central, South Coasts From Series Of Storms

Nearly a week of rain has left the Central and South Coasts with some impressive rainfall totals, including more than ten inches in some mountain areas. The seven day totals include 6.4” for Santa Barbara, 4.7” in Ventura and 5.9” in Westlake Village.

On the Central Coast, San Luis Obispo had 4.5”, Lompoc 3.9”, and Solvang 5.1”. The mountains really ended up with some big seven day rainfall totals. Gibraltar Peak above Montecito, which is home to KCLU’s Santa Barbara FM transmitter, had 8.7”. San Marcos Pass recorded 10.2” of rainfall.

Gibraltar and Jameson Reservoirs are both at 100% of capacity, while Lake Cachuma is at 47%, its highest level in years. Lake Casitas is now up to 35% of capacity.

While the series of storms boosted rainfall totals, the region escaped with minor damage aside from scattered highway, and street closures due to flooding and debris.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
