A Ventura County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team volunteer was killed while trying to help victims of an accident during the storm.

It happened just before 8 am Saturday on I-5 at Vista Del Lago near Pyramid Lake, which is about 30 miles north of Santa Clarita.

Sergeant Eric Buschow says a search and rescue team of volunteers from Fillmore was heading to Mt. Pinos for a winter training exercise.

"They stopped to render assistance at the scene of that crash and while they were assisting people, another vehicle struck several of our SAR team members, killing one and injuring three," he says.

The name of the man who died has not yet been released. One of those injured was rushed to a hospital. Two others suffered minor injuries.
