Woman Pleads Guilty To Embezzling $1 Million Dollars From Ventura County Business Where She Worked

A woman could face eight years in state prison after she pled guilty to charges she stole more than a million dollars from the Ventura County ophthalmology practices where she once worked.

Yvonne L. Martin was Executive Director of Camarillo based Dougherty Laser Vision for eight years. Ventura County prosecutors say Martin filed false expense report claims.

They say to cover the embezzlement, she would forge vendor invoices to make the claims seem legitimate.

After she was charged with embezzlement, she claimed she had dementia and was unable to stand trial. However, a jury rejected that claim after seeing video of her fully functioning outside of the courtroom setting.

The 57 year old woman pled guilty to 15 grand theft and forgery charges. She’ll be sentenced March 15th.
