A South Coast department has a new vehicle which will allow it to better handle big emergencies. The Oxnard Fire Department has added what’s known as a Light and Air apparatus. It’s a special truck which allows firefighters to get their air tanks refilled on the scene of an incident.
Firefighters can use up to four air tanks in less than an hour, and with a limited number of tanks on each fire truck, it can be a major problem during an ongoing emergency. Up until now, Oxnard firefighters had to borrow one of the trucks from other agencies.
The Light and Air apparatus was purchased with a $450,000 federal grant.
