Surfer Injured In Shark Attack On Central Coast

A college student needed dozens of stitches after he was bitten by a shark while he was surfing off the Central Coast. The attack happened Tuesday morning at Montana de Oro State Park in San Luis Obispo County.

The 19 year old man told park rangers the shark clamped down on his legs, but he started kicking and it released him. While the injuries were serious, they were not described as life threatening.

The attack occurred about 100 yards offshore.

Warning signs have been posted at beaches in the area, but they haven’t been closed to the public.
