New Plan Developed To Try To Save Financially Trubled South Coast Non-Profit

La Casa De La Raza's building in Santa Barbara

A financially troubled non-profit group on the South Coast and a housing agency have developed a proposal they hope will help both organizations. La Casa De La Raza has been having financial issues for some time, including a failed effort to declare bankruptcy.

Now, the Housing Authority of Santa Barbara is proposing to build affordable housing at the site of La Casa’s longtime home. The plan calls for the property to be developed in a way which also celebrates the site’s heritage, with the Housing Authority paying off loan debt for the property.

La Casa would continue to be based at the site with a smaller footprint. The non-profit has been operating for years as an organization offering services to the community’s Latino residents.

La Casa and the Housing Authority will host a meeting January 17th to outline the plan.
