Authorities now say an explosion and fire which seriously injured a man at a Central Coast home was the result of a mistake in an illegal drug lab. The blast occurred just before 3 a.m. Thursday, on the 3900 block of Marion Court in Lompoc.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies say the 57 year old man was making hash oil when he made a mistake, leading to the blast. The man’s wife was unhurt.

Law enforcement officers responding to the blast got a search warrant when they realized the cause might be suspicious. Detectives say they recovered a large amount of illegal drugs. Because of the ongoing investigation, the man’s name isn’t being released yet.
