A Ventura County woman has been convicted of murder for killing her three year old daughter.
Mayra Alejandra Chavez was found guilty of second degree murder, assault resulting in the death of a child, and torture.
The Oxnard woman lost custody of Kimberly Chavez Lopez after the newborn tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana. Chavez regained custody after boing through parenting classes.
But, prosecutors say the infant was taken away a second time because Chavez was abusing her. They say the woman again regained custody and the abuse resumed, leading to the infant's death. The child's body was never recovered, but the father testified that they had disposed of it in Mexico. Chavez is facing a 47 years to life sentence.
