Two Small Brush Fires Pop Up In Ventura County Monday Morning

UPDATE: The fire in the Rocky Peak Road area, the Rocky Fire, has grown to 75 acres and caused a shutdown of the 118 freeway in the region.

With Santa Ana winds blowing in the region, Ventura County firefighters faced two new small brush fires which have popped up Monday morning.

A 15 acre blaze started in the Lynn Ranch area of Newbury Park just after 10 a.m. The Lynn Fire was on the 1200 block of Calle Las Casas. It burned in an open space area up against some home which are nearby.

A number of firefighters already in the area were able to move quickly to the scene. Firefighters think they’ll be able to contain it at about 25 acres. Meanwhile, a small spot fire flared up during the 10 a.m. hour Monday just south of Highway 118, in the Rocky Peak Road area outside of Simi Valley.
