Four People Suffer Major Injuries After Fire Destroys Homes On South Coast

Several people are suffering major injuries – including two in critical condition – after a fire swept through homes on the South Coast.

The Ventura City Fire Department says the fire broke out just before 1 Sunday morning in Cabrillo Village in East Ventura.

The fire moved quickly, spreading to three homes and numerous cars.

Four people from the same house that initially caught fire were injured and rushed to hospitals. Two have critical injuries and two others have moderate injuries.

More than 40 firefighters battled the fire but efforts were hampered after power lines fell and exposed arching wires.

The Red Cross arrived to assist 15 people who have been displaced.

Initial estimated damages – not including vehicles – are more than half a million dollars.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
