Retired South Coast Law Enforcement Officer Gets Sentenced To Jail

A former law enforcement officer on the South Coast will spend a little time behind bars.

Donald Paul McCaffrey was sentenced on Friday in connection with a hit and run.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, McCaffrey was involved in an accident in July 2016 and then ran from police. He evaded authorities for about an hour before surrendering.

Earlier this month, a jury convicted McCaffrey on misdemeanor charges of hit and run and resisting, obstructing or delaying a law enforcement officer.

A judge sentenced him on Friday to 15 days in county jail and three years of probation as well as 50 hours of community service.

McCaffrey is a retired Santa Barbara Police lieutenant.
