Falling Tree Injures Woman, Son In Santa Barbara County

A woman and her son were both hurt when they were walking on their rural Santa Barbara County property, and a tree fell on them.

It happened just after five Tuesday night on the 7500 block of Happy Canyon Road, in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Santa Barbara County firefighters say the pair was out for a walk when a huge oak tree suddenly fell on them.  The son was able to free himself, but the mother was trapped by the fallen tree.

Firefighters had to bring in a hand crew with chain saws to remove the branches of the tree, and get to the injured woman. She suffered serious injuries, and was flown to Cottage Hospital by helicopter. Her son escaped with minor injuries.
