Authorities Say Central Coast Jail Inmate Committed Suicide

Authorities say they are investigating a suicide at a Central Coast jail.

A 47 year old Arroyo Grande man was found hanging in his cell by deputies at the San Luis Obispo County Jail Saturday morning.

Jail officials say the man was okay when they checked on him at 11:20, but when they came back about 20 minutes later to bring him lunch, they found him hanging by a bedsheet. He was in jail for violating terms of his release following a criminal conviction, and was due for re-release next month.

Officials say it was the third suicide attempt at the jail in the last month, but two others were caught in time.

The District Attorney’s Office is investigating the death.
