DAs Say They Will Update Case Against Accused Serial Killer; Blamed For Six South Coast Slayings

Accused serial killer Joseph James DeAngelo in court

District attorneys from six California counties are meeting to discuss the case against a man accused of being one of the state’s most notorious serial killers, including six slayings on the South Coast.

Joseph James DeAngelo is accused of being the Golden State Killer, responsible for 13 murders, and more than 50 rapes on the 1970’s and 80’s.

The string of murders attributed to the serial killer include four in Goleta, and two in Ventura. Officials say the DA’s will announce an update in the case Tuesday morning, but aren’t releasing specifics.

One of the big unanswered questions about the case is whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty for the now 72 year old former policeman.
