Ventura County Warns Non-Profits; Be Aware Of Official Looking, But Misleading Billings

Ventura County officials have issued a warning about a scam which targets non-profit agencies. The Ventura County Assessor’s Office has received a number of reports about groups getting official looking bills for what are officially free government services.

One of the mailings looks like the county’s property tax exemption form, seeking a $150 dollar fee for help in providing what is actually a free service.

Officials say non-profits should examine anything which looks like government billing closely, and if it appears questionable to directly contact the government agency.
