Police Officer Hurt, Man Wounded Following Confrontation In Ventura County

A police officer was hurt, and a wanted man was shot following a confrontation in Ventura County.

An Oxnard Police officer on patrol in a mobile home park on the 1300 block of East Ventura Boulevard Sunday night spotted a man wanted for several arrest warrants. The officer says when he stopped Joel Tapia Junior to arrest him, the 30 year old man resisted.

During a struggle, the officer fired a shot, hitting the Oxnard man, who retreated into his home. After a long standoff, Tapia surrendered without incident. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of his wound, and is listed in stable condition.

The officer was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
