Department Store Chain Announces Plans To Close One Of Its Ventura County Stores

The corporate parent of Sears has announced the latest in what’s been a wave of store closings, and it includes a longtime outlet in Ventura County. The more-than 50-year-old Sears store in Thousand Oaks will close in September.

Sears Holdings has been in financial trouble for the last few years. The company told workers at ten Sears and Kmart locations across the country last week that their stores would be closing, including the one at the Janss Marketplace.

The company has announced the shutdown of 78 stores nationwide since the beginning of the year.

There are still Sears stores in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Santa Maria.

The company hasn’t announced plans to close its Kmart location in Goleta, but Target may be taking over the location. Target filed a preliminary application with the City of Goleta to turn the site into one of its stores.
