Six people are recovering from an ordeal in the ocean off the South Coast. They were on board a 36 foot long boat which sank off the coast of Ventura County.

The boat was about 12 miles southeast of Channel Islands Harbor when it began taking on water Sunday morning. The people on board sent out a mayday call at around 9 a.m.

An already airborne Coast Guard helicopter was diverted to the scene, and hoisted three people to safety. A Coast Guard boat launched from Channel Islands Harbor arrived a few minutes later, and pulled the remaining three people from the water.

No one was injured.
