Man Arrested Following Shovel Attack In Santa Barbara County

Detectives say they are trying to figure out what led to the attempted murder of a man with a shovel at a restaurant in Santa Barbara County.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies called to the parking lot of a Carpinteria fast food restaurant early Monday morning by a report of someone stalking someone else. Deputies say they found a man lying on the ground, and a second standing above him ready to swing a shovel.

They were able to convince Travis John Wheeler of Ventura to step away from the victim, and drop the shovel. The victim had injuries to his hands, arms and legs from being hit with the shovel, but none of the injuries were life threatening.

Detectives say the two men knew each other. Wheeler was arrested for attempted murder.
