DNA Tests Show Body Found On Central Coast Is That Of Missing Man; Death Called A Homicide

DNA tests confirm some recently found human remains on the Central Coast are those of a man who disappeared two years ago, and that he appears to have been a murder victim.

Jared Jay Walters was reported missing to Atascadero Police in February of 2016. San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s detectives received information that the 38 year old man might be dead, and that his remains were on some property outside of Santa Margarita.

Investigators got a search warrant. A two day search of the rural areas by a half dozen law enforcement agencies in March led to the discovery of human remains. While the death is being called a homicide, details on the cause of death and a possible motive aren’t being released.
