Ventura County Man Gets Long Prison Sentence For Shooting At Police Officers

A man has been sentenced to more than three decades in prison after being convicted of shooting at some police officers in Ventura County.

Two Santa Paula police officers on patrol in June of 2012 tried to stop Severiano Arredondo for jaywalking across a street. He walked away from them. When they ordered him to stop, he pulled out a pistol and started shooting.

The officers stopped, and jumped out of their patrol vehicle, which was hit twice by gunfire. They were unhurt. The officers returned fire, missing the 23 year old Santa Paula man. He fled to a nearby apartment complex, where he was arrested.

Arredondo was convicted of two counts of assault on a peace officer with special circumstances, leading to his 34 year state prison sentence.
