An effort to get some guns out of the community on the Central and South Coasts is being called a big success, with more than 250 weapons collected.
Santa Barbara Police and the Coalition Against Gun Violence held an anonymous gun buyback over the weekend.
They exchanged grocery gift cards for functioning guns surrendered. The guns collected included five assault weapons, 99 handguns, 107 rifles, and 49 shotguns. More than $23,000 in gift cards were distributed in exchange for the weapons.
The annual event has collected more than 880 weapons since 2014.
