Two Central Coast High Schools Placed On Lockdown; Gun Threat Was Hoax

Two Santa Barbara County High Schools were placed on lockdown shortly before the time of the national school walkout Wednesday, after a social media posting indicated there might be violence on campus.

The posting indicated there was a gun on campus at Righetti High School in Santa Maria. Righetti and St. Joseph’s High School were both placed on lockdown at about 9:30 a.m. while the threat was investigated.

Investigators say Atascadero Police determined a student in their area was responsible for the threat, and he was arrested. The lockdown was lifted just before lunchtime.
