Rain In Forecast For Central, South Coast, But Forecasters Say Chance of Flooding Drops

The latest forecast models show the chance of heavy rain in brush fire burn zones on the Central and South Coasts from an approaching storm has dropped dramatically.

The storm moving through the region is expected to drop about a quarter to a third of an inch of rain Monday night into Tuesday. But, the bigger concern was about instability creating thunderstorms which could drop more than a half inch of rain in burn zones during a short period of time.

National Weather Service meteorologists say the latest models show the instability will be offshore, and have dropped the chance of locally heavy rain onshore from 20% to around 5%. They do point out the percentage is not zero, so the situation will have to be closely monitored.

Santa Barbara County issued a pre-evacuation advisory Sunday, saying that should conditions warrant evacuations could be ordered Monday evening for areas near brush fire burn zones. You can access Santa Barbara County’s official information on the situation at readysbc.org
