Storm Expected To Bring Rain To Central, South Coast; Pre-Evacuation Order Issued

A storm system moving onto the Central and South Coasts Monday afternoon is expected to bring about a third of an inch of rain to the region, but it’s also prompting a pre-evacuation advisory for some burn areas.

The advisory is over concern that we could see some locally heavy thunderstorms which impact brush fire burn areas, like the Thomas, Whittier, Sherpa, and Alamo burn zones.

They could trigger potentially a half inch to inch of rain, which could create what officials say would be minor debris flows. The chance is consider slight, but it exists.

National Weather Service forecasters say there’s a 20 percent chance that thresholds for debris flows in the recent burn areas could be exceeded for 15, 30, and 60 minute periods. As the storm gets closer, officials will update information.

People in the burn zones should be prepared for the possibility of evacuation orders Monday night.
