Santa Barbara County prosecutors say Sheriff’s deputies were justified in fatally shooting of a man who snuck into a Goleta home, and confronted arriving officers with a knife.
Last February 17th, the Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls of a man possibly under the influence of drugs jumping over fences into the backyards of some houses, and entering the homes.
Deputies encountered Nicholas Carreno on the back patio of one of the homes. They say he refused orders to halt and drop a kitchen knife in his hand, and when he advanced, they fatally shot the 26 year old man.
The officers told investigators that as he advanced, he shouted “kill me” to the deputies. An autopsy show Carreno was under the influence of multiple drugs, including methamphetamine.
