Plans Announced To Close Thomas Fire Recovery Field Sites In Ventura County

With firefighters continuing to make progress against the Thomas Fire, plans have been announced to shut down the main local assistance center for the public.

Ventura County and the City of Ventura opened the center December 13th at Ventura’s Poinsettia Pavilion. It will permanently close at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The center is helping people with information on everything from finding temporary housing, and replacing lost government documents to debris removal. It’s assisted an estimated 2,000 families.

Recovery information trailers in Ojai and Santa Paula will wrap up their operations at the end of the day Friday.

Meanwhile, Santa Barbara County announced plans for a recovery assistance community event Friday. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Carpinteria Community Church. With the end of evacuations in Santa Barbara County, the daily community meetings on the fire status in Goleta have been cancelled.
