Foundation Makes Major Grant To Help Families Of Firefighters In Ventura County

A non-profit fund intended to help Ventura County firefighters and their families in need has received a huge grant to fund scholarships.

The Ventura County Fire Department’s Widows, Orphans, and Assistance Fund got a $750,000 donation from the Dr. Richard Grossman Community Foundation. The money will be used to help college bound children of fire department employees.

Grossman was a famous plastic surgeon who devoted most of his career to helping burn victims. The late doctor founded a burn center which is now in West Hills, and has expanded to include facilities in Bakersfield and Kansas City.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
