Ventura County Theater Company Changing Names, As It Expands Past Musicals To Include Plays

A more than two decade old non-profit theater company in Ventura County is changing its name, as part of an effort to expand past just musical theater productions.

Thousand Oaks based Cabrillo Music Theater has been entertaining audiences for years, with productions like Hello Dolly, Cats, Forever Plaid, and Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” But, starting September 1st, the company will take on a new name, Five Star Theatricals, as it expands to include more than just musicals.

Managing Director Will North says the idea is by mixing the big musicals with smaller scale plays, they can have an expanded season, more revenue, and higher visibility. North says they’ll continue to have musicals at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza as their centerpiece, but add smaller scale plays to the mix.

The non-profit company kicks off its new season in October with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
