Man To Get Life Sentence For Ventura County Attack Which Left Wife Dead, Three Wounded

A man who shot to death his wife, and seriously wounded three of her co-workers in a Ventura County dental office will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Jaime Paredes entered a guilty plea to a first degree murder charge for shooting to death his wife, Mariella Paredes, and three attempted murder charges for the attacks on the three others who were wounded.

The 38 year old man used an assault rifle in the July, 2009 attack in a Simi Valley dental office, surrendering after a brief standoff with police.

He was initially found incompetent for trial, but in 2016 a mental hospital ruled he was able to face charges. It’s expected he’ll get 71 years to life behind bars when he’s sentenced in August.
