Downed Power Lines Named As Cause Of Brush Fire In Santa Barbara County

Downed power lines are being blamed for a 250 acre plus brush fire which briefly threatened some homes in eastern Santa Barbara County.

The fire broke out just after 3 p.m. Sunday in the Cuyama Valley, just south of New Cuyama.

Gusty wind quickly expanded the flames, but Santa Barbara County firefighters aided by crews from the Los Padres National Forest stopped the fire’s growth in about two hours. Air tankers and helicopter water drops helped the firefighting efforts.

It was fully contained by sunset. No structures were damaged.
