Low-Income Families Move Into New Habitat For Humanity Homes In Ventura County

Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County just completed this eight-home development for low-income families in Santa Paula

Low-income families on the South Coast now have a place to call home.

“There’s no words to express how happy we are,” said Evangelina Medina.

She, along with her husband and three children, moved into their new house in Santa Paula last week. After moving out of a home that was falling apart, she says she’s relieved that her children now have a safe place to live.

“We’re not going to be that stressed on ‘What are we going to do to offer them a stable home?’ We’re going to focus on them, on their education and caring for our family.”

It’s a home that they can afford thanks to Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County. The Medinas are one of eight low-income families now living in this new development.

Since groundbreaking in 2014, more than 3,000 volunteers – including the homeowners themselves – put in nearly 60,000 hours to build these homes.
