An insulin shot to help control diabetes

An international healthcare company and a South Coast center are teaming up to try to advance diabetes research.

Eli Lilly and Company and Santa Barbara’s William Sansum Diabetes Center have announced plans for a five year project which will focus on diabetes in the Latino community. Officials with Sansum, and Lily say the research is intended to help develop better approaches to deal with this medical issue among Latinos.

The Sansum Diabetes Center has been on the cutting edge of diabetes research and treatment since the 1940’s. It was founded by Dr. William Sansum, the first U.S. doctor to use insulin to treat diabetes.
