He’s run billion dollar investment companies, served as Chief of Staff for a presidential cabinet member, and written pieces for the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and other major publications.
If you’ve ever been to a major event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, the odds are good this man is the person who welcomed the crowd, and introduced the event or guest speaker.
Now Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Executive Director John Heubusch is taking on a whole new and unexpected role in the public eye today. He’s now also a novelist, with a two book deal with a major publisher and his first book debuting this week.
“The Shroud Conspiracy” is centered around one of the great religious debates in history, the “Shroud of Turin.” Heubusch says in his novel, a forensic anthropologist is hired to prove the shroud is a fake, but discovers it’s real. He also finds out there is an evil plot to use this information.
What makes the story behind the writing of the novel more remarkable is besides running the Reagan Foundation, and bringing up his kids, he’s also been battling a rare form of cancer for the last four years. Heubusch admits it wasn’t easy, between work, family, and the cancer. But he says he feels like the determination to finish the book helped keep him going, especially when he was dealing with things like chemotherapy.
Heubusch says he was proud of the finished product, but admits he was still stunned with a major publisher agreed to buy it, and a sequel.
The book will officially be introduced during a free event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley Tuesday. For once, Heubusch won't be the host at a Reagan Library event, but the guest. Actor Gary Sinese, from the movie “Forrest Gump” and the “CSI-New York” TV series will interview Heubusch about the new book.
After the 6 p.m. event, Hebusch will do a book signing for advance copies of the book available at the library. The author will then start a book tour for the book which includes a signing event in Washington, D.C. later this week.
