Ventura County Public Defender Announces Retirement Plans

For more than three decades, he’s defended everyone from people accused of driving under the influence, to murder.

Now, Ventura County Public Defender Steve Lipson has announced his retirement.

Lipson started in the Public Defender’s office in 1996, and rose to the top spot in 2010. He’s been an advocate for helping those in the criminal justice system with mental health, and drug addiction issues, and is on the Board of Directors for the National Legal Aid and Defender Association.

Lipson will step down in June. The County CEO’s office will start recruitment for a replacement later this year.
