State Official On The Record As Opposing Proposed Oil Platform Expansion On South Coast

State official opposing proposal to redrill, expand wells on Platform Holly off Santa Barbara County coastline

A top state official says she opposes a proposal to expand operations of an oil platform off the South Coast. Venoco has applied to redrill and extend six wells from Platform Holly, which is located off the Santa Barbara County Coastline.

State Controller Betty Yee says oil drilling should not be expanded. Yee is a member of the three person State Lands Commission, which oversees questions regarding oil and gas development in state waters off the California coastline.

The Commission hasn’t approved new oil drilling in state waters since 1969.
