You can kick off the holiday season by bringing home a four-legged friend. A special Black Friday event is happening at an animal shelter on the South Coast this coming weekend.

More than 500 animals at Ventura County Animal Services' locations in Camarillo and Simi Valley are waiting to be adopted.  As a no-kill shelter, pets stay at the adoption centers for a long time.

“We are treading water. If we get too many animals here, we sink,” Randy Friedman with VCAS said.

So, from Friday through Sunday, you can adopt a dog or a cat by naming your price (which could be $0, $5 $10, etc.)...any price.

Friedman said it’s a different kind of Black Friday.

“This is not the big screen TV that’s $500. This is an animal that’s going to be with you for the rest of their lives. Here, you’re going to get something that’s going to love you back,” he said.

Adoptions normally cost $105.
