Santa Barbara County Voters Approve Bed Tax Hike; IV Voters Want Community Services District

Residents of one South Coast community decided at the ballot box they want more of a say in how the community is managed.

Isla Vista voters overwhelming approved formation of a community services district. Voters approved the district by a more than six to one margin.

Meanwhile, Santa Barbara County voters okayed a hike in the bed tax for unincorporated parts of the county from 10% to 12%. The hike paid for by visitors brings the tax on hotel and motel room stays in line with most cities in the county, and will generate as much as two million dollars in extra revenue annually for the county.
