Ventura County Man Convicted Of Second Degree Murder In Death Of Sheriff's Deputy

A Ventura County man has been convicted of second degree murder for a hit and run crash which killed a Ventura County Sheriff’s deputy.

Kevin Hogrefe was driving under the influence when he struck, and fatally injured deputy Eugene Kostiuchenko in October of 2014. The deputy had just wrapped up a traffic stop on Highway 101’s northbound Lewis Road onramp when he was hit by Hogrefe.

Hogrefe fled the scene, but was arrested a short time later when he crashed following a short pursuit. The 27 year old man now faces a 15 years to life sentence for his felony DUI and fleeing the scene of an accident convictions. Sentencing is set for November 14th.
